Ways Kids Can Bond With Grandparents
I have been thinking for the past few days about the treasures my grandparents left for us their grandchildren that would last for our lives. This made me feel that it is very necessary for parents to help their children share a wonderful bond with their grandparents.
Most grandparents relive their childhood in the company of their grandchildren and us as their children need to show our kids to show respect, care, attachment and consideration to their grandparents that would shape the child’s perspective of a normal relationship. It is also significant to understand here that grandparents are a great source of love and care to their grandchildren and a strong bond between the two would have a positive effect on family bonds.
A weak bond of relationship between the two would have negative effects; it would inhibit cognitive development and lead other behavioral issues, with a close relationship making the children consider them as a great source of social support.
Ways in which kids can bond with grandparents:
Allow both grandparents and grandchildren to go for outings:
They could go for outings as a shopping spree or a music concert or a visit to an amusement park. This would give them some time to enjoy and also help them to know about each other’s interests, likes and dislikes. Allowing both of them to be as they like would help build that special bond between grandparents and grandchildren.
Parents should be a link between grandparents and grandchildren:
This is possible because parents know the character and personality of both grandparents and grandchildren; they could be transparent to both parties in knowing the likes and dislikes of each other.
Grandparents and grandchildren should play together:
Playing board games and other games according to the age of the child are great ways for grandparents to bond with grandchildren. Parents may not available all the time to play and engage children, so grandparents could help and this is a golden chance to help your kids bond with their grandparents.

Encourage frequent mutual visits:
Make it a point to visit your parents on important festivals and often if you stay close by; this is especially essential when your parents stay away. Also encourage your parents to visit giving the children; this would give the children more time with their grandparents. Also longing for the next visit will make their relationship more stable.
Allow your parents to teach their grandchildren:
Let your parents have interaction with the children and teach them things they would like to learn. Grandparents could teach children small things like snapping the finger or dealing a deck of cards and bigger things like cooking, baking and doing embroidery. This will leave a lasting and indelible impression on grandchildren.
Encourage grandparents to read bedtime stories to grandchildren:
Reading bedtime stories or otherwise reading a book together will build a bond between grandparents and grandchildren that they would treasure for times to come. Parents have to play an important role here in finding a book that grandparents would love to read and grandchildren would like to hear.
