How To Help Your Child Excel In School
I attended a very interesting talk by an educationist about how to help children to excel in school. All parents have financial, moral and spiritual obligations towards their children, with a parent’s involvement in a child’s education helping to shape the future of a child. Though children learn a lot in school, the strong foundation of a child starts at home; parents need to set the right attitude for learning and then teach them the way to excel in school and then in life.
There are 6 ways to help your child excel in school:
1) The first important way is to develop in children a positive attitude towards learning; it is very necessary to communicate to the child the importance of studies and education in shaping their bright future.
2) Next children need to be taught that it is not futile to make mistakes; it sets the ground for learning. Encourage your children to try out new things. Parents need to build the self confidence of their child by stressing that everyone makes mistakes and nobody is perfect. Also they should not compare their children with others as this could affect their self-confidence and self-esteem. Each child is unique in his or her own way.
3) Parents could help their children to excel in studies by providing an environment at home that is conducive to learning; provide educational toys, reading material and space comfortable for learning. It would also help to encourage your child to watch educational videos and educational programs on TV and spend some quality time playing educational games with your children.

4) It would help for parents to help children to manage their time; they need to have time for play, study, meals and rest. Also this should be followed by giving children a balanced diet; avoid too much sugar and junk foods that could lead to hyperactivity. All this would help him/her to excel in studies.
5) Children look up to parents as role models for guidance and assistance; your trying to excel in everything would set the same mindset and attitude in your child. Show and share your interests in learning, personal development and continuous learning; encourage your child to dream big and walk with him/her in every phase of the way to achieve it.
6) Praise and reward your child for his/her achievements; it need not be a material reward, just a simple hug and words of appreciation will motivate him/her to aim high.
All these ways will help your child to excel in school. It has been well said in Proverbs 22:6- "Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.”
