Baby Clothing - How Many Layers Are Ideal Depending On Different Seasons
Baby clothing and number of layers is what bothers most young parents who wish to avoid their babies being too hot or too cold. Most babies would just require one more layer than adults; it is best to use several thin layers that can be pulled out easily than one thick and bulky one. Layers help to trap in the warm air and insulate the baby more effectively and it is easy to make more subtle adjustments to body temperature by varying the number of layers.
Check the temperature of your baby to make sure he/she is comfortable; place the back of your hand on the chest, tummy or nape of the neck to make sure he/she is not too hot or cold. Take out a layer of the clothing if you find the baby perspiring and check after some time. Add another thin layer if he/she feels cold; regular checks ensure that the baby is comfortable and there is no danger to his/her health and well being.
You may be required to buy just a few standbys of clothing for your baby depending on the season.
During winter ensure your baby wears a couple of pairs of socks that is pulled over tights; they prove to be as warm as pram shoes and would not fall off and get lost. Again make sure your baby has a pair of fleecy or cotton knit mittens and a fleecy or cotton-knit hat to be worn under a hood that is not close fitting. In addition ensure your baby has a cozy coat for cold weather and a snowsuit with detachable mitts and feet for extreme conditions.
Ensure that your baby has a cotton hat to cover the nape of his/her head and her/his pram has an adjustable parasol for sun protection. Ensure that you have a lightweight cardigan for sudden drops of temperature especially if the sun goes down.
It would be useful in spring and autumn to invest in lightweight, preferably shower-proof hooded jackets; walking children should also be provided with waterproof trousers.
Ensure your baby has special clothing to keep him/her warm if you are going on a skiing holiday. Your baby will need a water proof and well-fitting thermal hat, gloves or mittens, and warm boots and a couple of layers of thermal long-sleeved vests and long johns to go underneath. You could easily hire gears like snowsuits and boots for walking babies at the resort as this will work out more cost-effective than buying gear which the baby will soon outgrow. It is a good choice to go in for a 1-piece snowsuit that keeps water, snow and mud splashes out very effectively.
Being a smart mum means packing 2 extra sets of clothing for your baby; the first that is the same weight as what he/she is wearing and the other that is either much cooler or warmer depending on whether it is summer or winter. Next she would ensure she kept a cellular blanket in the back of the pram or push cart that could be used if it is cloudy and you are outdoors for more time than you planned.
