All About Starting A Dog Care Business
I attending an interesting talk about how to start a dog care business with my friend Vijaya and learnt a lot of things that I would treasure. The pet expert said that a dog business is an ideal for those that have a passion and compassion for canines; this business provides a mix of profits and a sense of fulfillment.
There are various business opportunities in dog care; you could become a dog walker, or pamper a spoilt pooch with simple or elaborate grooming routines or even start a pet boutique or bakery. The most important ingredient to starting a dog care business is a love for canines; you could include more services with money, demand and time.
The steps to starting a canine care business are:
The first step is to make a decision regarding the basics from the various options available for you; you could start dog sitting, dog walking, grooming and pet stores and boutiques. It is very essential to consider short term as well as long term goals and visions. It is best to start small and then add up more products and services. One of the most important things at this stage is to decide the name of the business; check with the secretary of the state office of the State and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on name availability.
Next create a business plan to guide and direct your business. The laying out and completion of the business plan could be well done by going to the U.S. Small Business Administration website. The business plan contains all information related to the mission and goals of your company, projected profitability, financing needs and marketing tactics. Spend time evaluating the competition, other dog care businesses in the area, and collecting data on pricing and expected costs.
The third step involves purchasing the necessary equipment; services like dog-sitting and dog walking involve the purchase of only a few things like leashes and a variety of dog toys and treats, while pet boutiques and grooming centers require a substantial initial investment. Purchasing of initial equipment also involves considering goals for future expansion and development.

Next find a suitable location; except dog boutiques, dog bakeries and large grooming operations, most dog care businesses can be operated from home. Looking for a physical retail space also means investigating and deciding whether to lease the space or outright purchase it. This involves taking a careful audit of the surrounding area also and evaluating it for competition presence, traffic patterns and size.
The last and most important step is to attract customers to your dog care business; adopt a targeted marketing campaign. Get ready plenty of brochures and visiting cards and supply to other dog care professionals and businesses, such as veterinarians and animal shelters to be displayed or handed over to clients. You could also consider asking for help to advertise from other dog care services in your area that offer a complementary service, for example a pet bakery could look to advertising their business with local dog boutique stores.
