My love for children, made me begin to write about daycare centers and how they are started; these centers are highly in demand and prove to be a smart and enjoyable business opportunity for those who love working with children. Such centers can be opened at home or in commercial place as a larger daycare business. Once you gather and think over all information you would be successful in starting your daycare center.

Steps to opening a daycare center:

It is first important to think over and understand the pros and cons of operating a daycare; the most important criteria being that you should love working with children. In addition you have also to take into consideration other elements of running this new business of daycare.

First of all it is necessary that you should not only love children, but also be ready to handle mishaps, behavioral issues and emergencies that could arise while working with children. It would help before assuming responsibility that you take training in first aid and CPR and classes in childcare.

Most parents of children that are entrusted to your care may have high expectations regarding the activities and education of the children in your care. It would help to work in a daycare center before starting one; getting a degree in education and experience in teaching would also be very useful.

Next daycare business is not just about childcare; as a business owner you would have to be in charge of book-keeping, employee management, marketing and other responsibilities. So you need to be prepared to handle these multiple responsibilities.

Next it is necessary to decide what type of daycare you are going to open; whether it is a home daycare center or a commercial daycare center would depend on your time capacity, financial restraints, and personal preference.

A home daycare center that is operated from home offers a homely environment for the children; being typically small it is usually open only to the kids of the neighborhood. A commercial daycare center is operated from commercial spaces; they accommodate more children, bring more revenue and could hire more employees.

Next it is necessary to know all about the licensing requirements of the state and get legal license to operate the daycare; this license is to be renewed each year. It is also important to research and understand here about the licensing requirements of both home daycare centers and commercially operated ones.

You need to undergo a home or facility safety inspection to prove that the operations follow the laws of your state. You must also demonstrate that there is certain ratio of adult caretakers to children; this varies with the age of the children. There may also be a requirement to complete an orientation or course in managing a daycare. In addition to all this paperwork you may have to submit a fee to get the license.

Lastly you have to decide the location; you have to make sure there is enough space for the children. Also there should be a fenced-in outward yard, a large play area, outside space, a convenient bathroom area and a kitchen for preparing snacks.
