All About Being Successful In A Nanny Interview
Your wish to be a nanny can only be success when you follow all the guidelines to be successful including those elements that cater specifically to childcare niche. It is very essential that you act and appear professional to create the right impression on the parents that are interviewing you.
Here are a few tips to be successful in a nanny interview:
a) Practice safety regarding location and whereabouts because the majority of the nanny interviews take place at a person’s residence. As a general rule let your family and friends know where you are going to be at the time of interview. It would be advisable to perform a background check on parents and other family members and also ask for references. In case you are not comfortable meeting the interviewer at his residence suggest meeting at a quiet public place like a public library or coffee shop.
b) Prepare for the nanny interview by ensuring you bring a copy of your resume and references as well as certifications that are pertaining to the nanny business. In addition ensure you bring a valid personal identification such as a birth certificate or a driver's license.
c) Next take a list of questions that you would like to ask at the interview that could make or break the decision to work with the family; it would also work to help to ask if you will be expected to perform any extra duties like laundry, running errands, tutoring, pet care and more in addition to watching the children.
d) Know from the parents how they discipline their children and the guidelines you would have to follow. It would also help to know any special medical needs or behavioral challenges of the children.

e) Ensure you are well groomed and professional in dressing; since you would have to interact with the children ensure that you dress comfortable and child friendly. Also ensure that you are punctual for the interview.
f) You would be asked nanny specific questions like why you left the last family you worked for, how you deal with medical emergencies, why you enjoy working with children; be prepared to answer it. Be honest and truthful while answering questions and answer uncomfortable questions politely.
g) Show a genuine interest in children and make an effort to connect with them during the interview. You will be then able to impress the parents that you are a great candidate for the position.
h) Ensure that you follow up after the nanny interview; in case you do not hear from the family within a week, send them a note to thank them for their time and for their interest. Also you may want to explain why you are the best fit for the position.
This would ensure you are successful in the nanny interview.
